OMG I love this kind of hyperbolic bullshit. It’s got every Fox News cliche wrapped into one:
- Libruls hate free speech for people who don’t agree with them and try to shut you up.
Even though freedom of speech does not mean you are immune from criticism. I have just as much a right to criticize what someone says as they have to say it.
- libruls are naively altruistic and it’s harmful.
Here I’ll start with “strawman argument,” then work my way to “prioritizing the well being of as many people as possible over the profits of a few plutocrats and trying to dismantle the deeply embedded cultural hegemony of patriarchy and racial supremacy is hardly motivated by naive altruism, on the contrary it is motivated by a love for reason and justice and a tendency to look at problems, try to find their root and think of ways to solve them instead of living in our own personal bubble or relying on such self-righteous mental masturbation as ‘obviously people need to stop being lazy entitlement whores’ etc etc etc.”
One of those negative connotation-having buzzwords meant to invoke images of corruption and tactical coups - even though the actual meaning of the word itself only denotes planning ahead. See: the gay agenda.
- Insert undertones of a false notion of martyrdom and heroism for resisting “P.C” dogmatism.
This is my favorite: the notion that perpetuating and actively defending the status quo - be it praising economic domination or calling marginalized groups derogatory and dehumanizing names - is the valiant and heroic work of a brave rebel fighting the good fight for an increasingly oppressed group (white people, males, the rich, heterosexuals, christians, cisgender folk etc. etc). It reminds me of how my 8 year old step brother reacts when someone tells him “you’re really not as special as you think you are” - a temper tantrum.
Keep in mind, I’m not singling out this person. I simply saw his statement as indicative of larger trends (there’s your liberal agenda phrase of the day) and worthy of analysis (for want of a better word).
